These 3d sculptures are the creation of Japanese artist Haroshi, who uses nothing but recycled skateboards. The artist has to endure some serious graft when creating these as he has to cut, shave, stack, manipulate and then polish the multicoloured ply wood. Hiroshi himself is a skateboarder so his art comes out of love as he creates art from old broken decks.

These colourful forms have also a secret. They each have a piece of a metal skateboard inserted in its core, so, in the artists words it has a “soul”. This is a homage to a ancient Japanese technique, of giving Buddah a soul by placing a crystal inside the wood, where the heart would be. Well soul or no soul these are pretty damn impressive.
